March 11, 2019

In attendance:

  • Heather Neilson
  • Rebecca Cannon
  • Kadee Skeem
  • Angie Fisher
  • Melissa Dunn

The meeting started at 10:45 a.m.

Welcome by Committee Chair Rebecca Cannon.

Previous meeting minutes read by Angie Fisher.  Rebecca approved them and Melissa seconded them.

2018-2019 Plan review by Mrs. Neilson.  Salaries and Benefits category still has funds but will be all used up by end of summer.  She just registered for conferences for next year so those funds will also come out.  We went over on printing costs but every other category looks good with around $7,000 carryover.

2019-2020 Trust Land plan was due March 4th.  The reading goal is: From beginning to end of 2019-20 school year, 60% of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade students will achieve typical or above typical growth on the DIBELS assessment as measured by pathways of progress.  The math goal is:  Plain City Elementary students in grades 3-6 will achieve an average RISE math score that is 17 points higher than the district average for the 2018-19 school year.

The reading goal includes money for the reading specialist and paraprofessionals to provide small group reading intervention services, computer aides, PLC conferences, and chrome book costs.  The math goal supports computer aides and chrome book costs.

There is confusion within the school community regarding paying for field trips.  There was an envelope sent home at the beginning of the year asking for donations for field trips.  The sales from the chocolate are used to pay for the field trip buses.  These are the only times the school is able to ask for money for field trips.  Due to rising costs some field trips, like the 5th-grade skiing trip, could possibly be canceled.

Angie brought up possible safety concerns in school wondering if the school will ever implement doorbell accessibility for visitors.  Mrs. Nelison mentioned that WSD elementary schools who have implemented this have received special funding.  Some of them do not have offices near the main entrance.  There is a bill in the legislature right now that will provide funds for all schools to improve safety so hopefully that passes.

Meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
