PLAIN CITY, UT – As the final bells of the school year approach, Plain City Elementary is gearing up to keep the Panther spirit alive all summer long. Principal and staff are excited to announce the launch of the Superintendent’s Summer Reading and Math Programs, a district-wide initiative designed to keep our students learning, growing, and thriving while away from the classroom.

The program aims to combat the "summer slide" by making educational growth a seamless part of everyday life. Whether our Panthers are heading to the park, helping with the grocery shopping, or cooling off indoors, there are endless opportunities to earn recognition.

The Challenge: How to Earn Your Stripes

Students have the opportunity to push themselves in two key areas:

  • Summer Reading: Students can earn official recognition by reading 10 books or 1,000 pages over the break.

  • Summer Math: Students can achieve math honors by completing 7 hours of meaningful math activities.

  • The Dual Threat: For those looking for an extra challenge, students can complete both programs to receive maximum recognition for their hard work.

Math is Everywhere!

One of the most exciting aspects of this year’s program is the focus on "real-world" math. The Weber School District emphasizes that math doesn't have to happen at a desk. Panthers can log their hours through:

  • Cooking and measuring ingredients.

  • Playing board games or sports.

  • Solving real-world problems during summer shopping trips.

  • Engaging with puzzles and math-themed literature.

Celebrating Our Panthers

"These programs are designed to help students maintain and strengthen their skills while making learning fun and engaging," the district noted in the program announcement.

Plain City Elementary is a community that prides itself on a lifelong love of learning. We can’t wait to see our students back in their Blue, Black, and White this fall, ready to celebrate the hard work they put in over the warmer months.

Get started today, Panthers! Keep those brains moving as fast as a Panther on the prowl!
