Shauna smith dressed as the cat in the hat with a student dressed up

PLAIN CITY, UT — The halls of Plain City Elementary are filled with more than just the echoes of students; they are filled with history. This year, we are both proud and heavy-hearted to announce the retirement of one of our most beloved pillars, Mrs. Shauna Smith.

To call Shauna a "long-standing community member" is an understatement. Her roots in our blue, black, and white soil run deeper than most. Shauna’s journey with PCE began as a young student walking these very same hallways. She later returned as a parent, watching her own children grow up as Panthers, and eventually as a grandmother, cheering on a third generation.

For years, however, we have known her best as an educator who poured her heart and soul into the classroom.

The Heart of the First Grade Team

As a cornerstone of our first-grade team, Shauna has been the "anchor" that keeps everything moving. Known for her incredible work ethic and her ability to keep a tight schedule, she ensured that our youngest learners had the structure they needed to thrive. But beyond the lesson plans and schedules, it was her creativity that truly set her apart.

Whether it was choreographing hilarious skits for our annual Christmas assemblies or turning a Tuesday into a theatrical event, Shauna knew how to make school feel like magic.

A Style All Her Own

If there is one thing the students and staff will miss most, it is Shauna’s legendary dedication to Dr. Seuss Week. When it comes to dressing up, Shauna never did anything halfway. Her costumes were works of art, Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, she brought books to life and taught students the wonder of reading.

"She didn't just teach the curriculum; she lived the spirit of Plain City Elementary," says one fellow teacher. "She showed the kids that learning is fun, that being yourself is important, and that a little orange fur and a yellow mustache can brighten anyone's day."

Thank You, Mrs. Smith

Shauna, you have molded thousands of young minds and mentored dozens of colleagues. You have been a teacher, a friend, a leader, and above all the ultimate Panther. While we are sad to see you hang up your teaching whistle, we are so excited for you to enjoy this next, more relaxing chapter of life. Enjoy your retirement! You’ve earned every bit of it.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your service to our school and our community. You will always have a home here in the Panther Den.
