panther playing kickball

PLAIN CITY, UT — The sun is shining, the yearbooks are stacked and ready to hand out, and there is a familiar electricity in the air at Plain City Elementary. While the last day of school usually means saying goodbye, for our sixth graders, it means one thing: Redemption.

This Friday, the legendary Sixth Grade vs. Staff Kickball Game returns to the panther fields. It’s the most anticipated event of the year, where the oldest students in the school lace up their sneakers to face off against the very people who taught them everything they know except, perhaps, how to kick a home run over the head of a PE teacher.

A Tradition of Friendly Rivalry

For years, the script has remained largely the same. The staff, clad in their blue, black, and white, have maintained a historical winning streak that would make professional athletes jealous. Despite the teachers' "undefeated" status, the sixth-grade challengers are entering the arena this year with more confidence than ever.

"We’ve been practicing at recess since March," says one optimistic sixth grader. "The teachers are fast, but we’ve got youth on our side. This is the year the streak ends!"

The Atmosphere

The entire school will line the sidelines to cheer on their favorite players. The stands are expected to be a sea of Panther pride, with claps and cheers, school spirit chants, and plenty of "good-natured" trash talk.

What to Expect This Year

While the faculty usually relies on "veteran experience", the Class of 2026 is bringing a heavy-hitting lineup.

  • The Pitching Duel: Will the staff’s spinning curveballs baffle the students, or will the sixth graders find the sweet spot?

  • The Defense: The staff outfield is known for its legendary catches, but the students have speed that could turn a base hit into an inside-the-park home run.

  • The Stakes: Bragging rights for a lifetime or at least until the alumni walk through the doors of Junior High.

Will History Be Made?

As the final bell of the school year approaches, only one question remains: Will this be the first year the students finally topple the giants? Regardless of the final score, the Kickball Classic remains the heart of Plain City Elementary’s spirit. It’s a day of laughter, community, and a high-energy send-off for our departing sixth graders.

Go Panthers! Let’s play ball!
