As our Plain City Elementary Panthers prepare to head back to class, we want to ensure every student—from our youngest preschoolers to our sixth graders—enjoys a safe journey to and from school! Plain City and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) are currently reconstructing 3600 West between 1975 N and 2600 N. Because this construction runs directly past our school, a coordinated plan is in place to establish safe routes for all students while work continues through early October 2026.
Here is what families need to know about arrival and dismissal routes, safety guidance, and temporary traffic changes.
Construction Overview & Schedule
Location: 3600 West (1975 N to 2600 N)
Timeline: July through early October 2026
Work Hours: Monday through Friday (Saturdays if necessary), daytime only
Note: Schedule is subject to change due to weather and material availability.
How Your Student Will Reach School Safely
1. Students Living North or East of the School
Route: No changes are required.
Details: Sidewalks will remain fully open, and school buses will continue approaching from 2600 N as usual.
2. Students Living South of the School (Off 1975 N)
Detour: Students walking from the south should detour one block west to 3700 W, then head east on 2200 N to reach the school grounds.
3. Sidewalk Availability
A new sidewalk on the west side of 3600 West (from 2200 N heading north) is expected to be completed before the start of the school year, giving students a clear path to walk.
4. Designated Road Crossings
Students must use the staffed crosswalk located at 2200 N and 3600 W during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
Temporary fencing and barricades will be installed along the route to guide children directly to the correct crossing point.
Crucial Safety Reminders for Panther Families
With heavy machinery and changing traffic patterns near school grounds, we ask parents to review these safety rules with their children:
Stick to Your Side: Teach children the simple rule: If you are walking on the west side, stay on the west side. If you are on the east side, stay on the east side. Do not cross 3600 West anywhere except at the designated, staffed crosswalk.
Stay Clear of the Work Zone: Remind students that construction zones are not play areas. Children should never play near traffic cones, barricades, or heavy equipment.
Use Designated Paths: Always remain on open sidewalks and approved pedestrian routes.
