PLAIN CITY, UT — Plain City Elementary is gearing up for an energetic school year as fourth through sixth-grade Panthers jump into action with the return of the school's popular Jump Rope Program. The after-school initiative offers upper-elementary students a fun, high-energy environment to build cardiovascular fitness, learn new athletic skills, and connect with peers.
Designed to foster both athletic growth and team spirit, the program utilizes music, interactive games, and structured skill-building to keep students engaged. Beginners and experienced jumpers alike start on an equal playing field, with opportunities to progress through skill levels as they master new routines. Regular evaluation checks take place every four to six weeks, and organizers encourage home practice to help students build confidence.
"This after-school activity is a great way for students to stay active, have fun, and learn awesome new skills," shared program coordinator and Plain City's instructional coach Kaylene Wiser.
The program runs on Mondays from 3:20 PM to 4:15 PM and is split into two main sessions throughout the school year:
Session 1: September 28 – December 7 (No practice on Oct. 12)
Session 2: January 25 – April 26 (No practice on Feb. 8, 15, or 29)
To highlight their hard work, students will showcase their routines at the end of the school year during a special performance night and a school-wide assembly.
Registration requires a $30 program fee due by October 1st, which covers student participation and an official performance t-shirt. Plain City Elementary provides jump ropes during practice, though students have the option to bring a rope from home or purchase one from the main office for $3.00.
To ensure student safety and smooth operations, parents are asked to pick up participating students promptly at 4:15 PM on the south side of the building. Regular updates regarding the program will be posted on the ROOMS communication platform.
Families interested in enrolling their 4th–6th grade students can sign up online through the official registration form. For additional questions or information, contact Kaylene Wiser at kawiser@wsd.net or call (801) 452-4220.
