PLAIN CITY, Utah — Every morning at Plain City Elementary, students and staff look up to see the American flag proudly waving in the breeze above the home of the Panthers. That daily symbol of freedom is in good hands this year, thanks to the school’s sixth-grade class and a very special visit from local military heroes.

At Plain City Elementary, taking care of the school's flag is a tradition reserved for the oldest students. Each day, a pair of sixth graders is selected for the important duty of raising, lowering, and properly storing the flag that stands at the front of the school. To help them carry out this duty with the utmost honor, the Panthers welcomed local distinguished veterans to the school on Monday, September 21, 2026.

The visiting service members spent time with the sixth-grade class demonstrating the proper, step-by-step technique for folding the flag into its traditional triangular shape. Beyond the physical steps, the veterans shared personal insights on what the flag represents and why showing respect to our nation's symbol matters so much.

"Having our sixth graders learn these skills directly from individuals who have worn the uniform makes the responsibility so much more meaningful," said school organizers. "It turns a daily chore into a daily honor."

The entire Plain City Elementary community, students, staff, and families extends its deepest gratitude to these veterans for their sacrifice, their dedication to serving our country, and their continued willingness to invest in the next generation of Panthers.

Thanks to their time and mentorship, our Plain City Elementary students are ready to carry on this tradition with pride ensuring the Red, White, and Blue is always handled with the respect it deserves!
