PLAIN CITY, UT — At Plain City Elementary School, where Panther pride runs deep dedicated educators are the heart of the school community. This week’s Social Media Spotlight shines on 1st grade teacher Leslie Wentz, a beloved educator who has been inspiring young learners and supporting families in Weber School District for a decade.
Mrs. Wentz’s journey at Plain City Elementary spans 10 years, including four years of long-term substitute teaching before stepping into her classroom role full-time. Originally from Clinton, Utah, and now residing in Plain City, her spark for elementary education began right in a Plain City Elementary classroom while long-term subbing in Kindergarten for Mrs. Argile.
Inside her 1st grade classroom, Mrs. Wentz loves teaching math and working with students during these pivotal early years. Ask her what makes her classroom feel complete, and she’ll tell you with a smile: her favorite sandals and flip-flops! Her ultimate goal for every child who steps through her doorway is simple yet profound: "How to be the best version of themselves!"
When asked what makes Plain City Elementary special, Mrs. Wentz emphasizes the close-knit culture of the school. "I love that it is like a second family full of faculty, students, and parents!" she shared.
That family spirit was on full display during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Serving as the PTA President at the time, Mrs. Wentz was determined to keep school traditions alive for the kids. She spearheaded moving the annual Halloween costume parade outdoors, a change that sparked a favorite outdoor parade tradition still celebrated by Panthers today.
Dubbed with the Panther Superpower of "loving to be helpful to everyone," Mrs. Wentz fuels her days with Scooters, Starbucks, or a Diet Dr. Pepper, alongside her go-to snacks of movie popcorn and Gummy Cluster Nerds. Her favorite local spot around Weber County is Kent's Market, and her favorite color palette consists of tropical shades of pink, blue, and green.
Outside of school, students might be surprised to learn that their 1st grade teacher is an avid outdoor enthusiast who loves camping, fishing, and big game hunting! Above all, she cherishes spending time traveling and making memories with her family. If she were a wild panther, you'd find her relaxing on a sunny beach getting some Vitamin D!
Plain City Elementary is proud to celebrate Mrs. Leslie Wentz for her years of dedication, helpful spirit, and unwavering commitment to making PCES a place where every Panther can thrive!
