🐾 Once a Panther, Always a Panther! 💙🖤

Some teachers never truly leave the classroom! Kathy Vernieuw spent most of her career teaching 2nd grade at the original Plain City Elementary. Even after retiring, her heart stayed right here with our students.

For over 20 years, Mrs. Vernieuw has volunteered her time every single Wednesday to sing with our 2nd graders! 🎶✨ She’s bringing music, joy, and smiles to a whole new generation including the children of some of her former students!

Thank you, Mrs. Vernieuw, for your endless dedication and for making a difference across generations of Plain City Panthers. We love you! 💙

🍎 Spotted in 1st Grade: Our little Panthers turned ordinary paper into extraordinary masterpieces!

Our 1st graders have been diving into the world of art and learning all about mosaics—how tiny pieces come together to make one big, beautiful picture. To put their new skills to the test, they pieced together these incredible apple mosaics just in time for fall! ✂️🎨

It takes a lot of patience, creativity, and fine motor skills to place every single piece, and our students absolutely crushed it. We are so proud of their hard work and big imaginations!

Check out a few of our budding artists showing off their creations! 👇

🐾 PANTHER STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Mrs. Mumford! 💙🤍🖤

This week, we are celebrating 2nd Grade Teacher Sharon Mumford! Mrs. Mumford has been a teacher for 25 years, spending 22 of those wonderful years making learning come alive right here at Plain City Elementary.

Here are a few fun facts about Mrs. Mumford:
🐣 Favorite Tradition: Hatching chicks in her classroom every spring!
📚 Classroom Essential: "My classroom isn't complete without BOOKS!"
⚡ Panther Superpower: Super Organizer!
🥤 Go-To Fuel & Snack: Flavored water + licorice.
🚲 Outside of School: You'll find her biking on local trails, camping, cooking, reading, or admiring her map collection (she has a gigantic map of the world in her home!).

Mrs. Mumford was inspired to become an educator by her own 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Darrington. Now, she passes that passion down to our PCE Panthers every single day by encouraging them to stay curious and love learning! Thank you, Mrs. Mumford, for being paws-down the best! 🐾✨

Broccoli, paint, and math facts—just another exciting day in 3rd grade! 🥦🎨➗

Mrs. Child’s class had a busy (and colorful!) day packed with hands-on learning:

🥦 Broccoli Painting: Our 3rd graders got creative by swapping out traditional paintbrushes for broccoli! They used the textured florets to create some truly unique, stamping-style artwork.

✖️ Multiplication Practice: When the paint dried, it was time to dive into math! The class worked hard sharpening their multiplication facts, building a strong foundation for the rest of the school year.

We love seeing our Panthers stay creative while building important skills! 💙🖤🤍

Today, Mrs. Simonsen’s class took time to learn about the events of September 11, 2001, and honor the brave heroes and innocent lives lost on that day.

To pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives and show our unity, our students dressed in red, white, and blue. On this 25th anniversary of 9/11, our Plain City Elementary community remembers the bravery and strength of our nation. We are so proud of our young Panthers for showing such respect, empathy, and reverence as they reflected on this pivotal moment in history. ❤️🤍💙

We will never forget.

Rocking into art, geology, AND history! 🎨🪨

Our incredible 4th graders spent today in the art room making their very own "birthday rocks"! They dove deep into learning how people throughout history have used rocks to communicate, tell stories, and create art—and why this ancient form of expression still connects us today.

From ancient petroglyphs to personalized art, these Panthers proved that learning can truly rock! 🐾💙🖤

✨ Abracadabra! First grade is off to a magical start! 🪄

Mrs. Wentz’s class whipped up some special magic bracelets today to test out a little first-day fortune-telling:

These students were so excited to see those beads work their magic under the sun! ☀️ Color changes all around means one thing: it’s officially going to be an unforgettable year for these Little Panthers. 🐾💙🖤
